Spring Into Blackburn

Blackburn BID celebrated the joys of spring with their seasonal Easter event and promotional campaign.

Spring into Blackburn was a one-day event taking place on Easter Saturday, celebrating the arrival of Spring, Easter and school half-term.

The aim of the campaign was to entice people into and around Blackburn town centre and increase footfall for BID members to benefit the businesses and the local economy.

“The aim of the event was to attract people into and around the town centre to visit fun, free attractions.  I was so pleased to see the town centre and every attraction was really busy throughout the day.  The crazy golf was so popular that they kept running out of clubs!”

Catherine Price, Blackburn BID manager

The instantly recognisable Spring into Blackburn campaign graphics added playful content to the Blackburn BID social media channels between March and April highlighting all the events taking place for visitors to enjoy.

The campaign featured daily posts on each of Blackburn BID’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram social media platforms to generate engagement and interest about the event.

The fun-filled day of activities included crazy golf, Zoo2Ubird mask making workshops, Paint the Town workshops, as well as the opportunity to hold a bird of prey.

In addition, there was also a best dressed Spring window competition running – voted for on social media by followers.

The campaign resulted in the following:

  • 48 posts across all platforms in advance of the programme of events, reaching 17,201 people across the BID social channels.
  • 17 posts on the day of the event, reaching 11,362
  • 4,400 people voting for the best Spring themed window from three entries.
  • Overall footfall on the day, recorded by Blackburn BID footfall counters was 6,588.  This was very slightly down on the same day the year before by -1.3%, and -1.2% compared with the week before, however, many people said that the town centre was likely to be quiet as it was during Ramadan, and this was not the case.
  • Footfall was down -6% overall compared with the Easter Wonderland interactive trail event on Saturday 2 April 2022, but up +0.5% on the Railway Road counter, between the Crazy golf and Bird Mask Making attractions.
  • Three videos shared on after the event, generating 1,499 views.
  • Promotion of Businesses in the town centre to a new audience
